この度、Gallery t は、オランダ在住のセイット・バタル・クルト氏の日本での初の個展を開催いたします。クルト氏は、1978年にトルコ東部にあるクルド集落に生まれ、現在はオランダを拠点とし、国際的に活動しています。
展覧会「De-lâl（デ・ラル）」は、作家自身によるクルド語の造語です。「Delâl」は、「貴重な・最愛の・美しい」などを意味しますが、「De」と「lâl」を「-」で区切ることで、「lâl」は「無音」を表します。
今回、クルト氏は中東諸国の同一化政策の対象となったクルドに焦点をあて、その国際的に複雑な問題に丁寧に向き合い、インタビューを通して個々のアイディンティに深く触れています。そして、クルドが抱えている問題を美しい原風景と人々の生活の中に映し出します。本展では2006-07年にクルド集落で撮影された写真や映像と、2015年7-10月に日本の埼玉県蕨市にあるクルドコミュニティーに着目して制作された最新作のインタビュー映像をあわせて発表します。ぜひご高覧下さい。

セイット・バタル・クル / Seyit Battal Kurt
1978年トルコ、トップラックカレ生まれ。オランダ、ドルトレヒト在住。2005年ロイヤル・アカデミー・オブ・アート（デン・ハーグ、オランダ）彫刻科卒業。2010年サンドバーグ・インスティテュート（アムステルダム、オランダ）修了。
主なグループ展に「In which language shall I tell you my story?」 The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam（オランダ、2012）、「Double Take」第2回国際マルディン・ビエンナーレ（トルコ、2012）。また、アーカスプロジェクト、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスプログラム（茨城、2014年度レジデントアーティスト）、キョンギ・クリエーション・センター（韓国、2012）などのレジデンス・プログラムへも参加するなど国際的に活動しています。

Gallery t is delighted to present “De-lâl” from November 6th until November 28th, 2015, the very first solo exhibition in Japan by the Netherlands–based artist Seyit Battal Kurt.
Seyit Battal Kurt’s work focuses on the relationship between human beings and nature and how this enfolds in forming cultural, individual, as well as collective memories and identities. His work is an investigation into the topography of urban-capes. He creates narratives that initiate a dialogue with diverse landscapes and historical episodes of different societies.
Seyit Battal Kurt was born in Toprakkale, Agri, Turkey in 1978, currently lives and works in the Netherlands. He received his B.A. from the 3D Fine Arts Department (previously the Sculpture Department) of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten) in Hague, the Netherlands in 2005. He received his M.A. from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2010.
He has taken part in numerous exhibitions including CityOneminutes, Arsenale Novissimo, The 53rd Venice Biennale, Italy (2009), World Expo Shanghai, China (2010), Yin & Jan, Maritiem Museum, Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2011) and Shanghai, China (2012) and was part of the 2nd International Mardin Biennial, Mardin, Turkey in 2012. He has participated in various residencies, talks, and lectures in Europe and Asia including GCC Gyeonggi Creation Center Artist Residency, Daebu-do, South Korea (2012), ARCUS Project 2014, Artist in Residence program, Ibaraki, Japan (2014).
